What are you eating on your wedding day?

Emphasis on the word “day”. We’re referring to everything that you will eat leading up to your cocktail hour and reception dinner. Because let’s be real, once you get dressed, chances are you won’t see food again until cocktail hour or dinner. Let’s go a step further and keep it 100% truthful, chances are if you didn’t strategically plan an early dinner away from your guests, you may not eat much during dinner either. You will have people continuously coming by your table to say hello and you’ll probably be pretty excited yourself, that you will have a hard time remaining seated long enough to finish one course.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day

I always tell my couples that breakfast is still the most important meal of the day and that does not exclude your wedding day. Studies have shown that too many people forget to feed themselves and the bridal party on the wedding day. It's important to pre-arrange more than just nibbles for your entire crew—especially if you aren't primping in your own home or a full service hotel. When you’re home, chances are you have food readily available to you in the fridge and pantry. When you are at a full service hotel, there will be a restaurant on-site that you can surely have food catered to your room.

Are you “hangry”? eat something

Let’s face it, no one like’s “hangry” people. With all the commotion and emotion of the day, you need to start with breakfast to help keep you going and glowing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for keeping it light. Avoid too much dairy, caffeine or anything that simply does not fully agree with you. We also suggest finishing food 30 minutes before getting dressed. This will give your body enough time to digest what was just taken in. You'll want enough sustenance so you're not feeling lightheaded or faint during the ceremony.

Suggestions on which foods to eat

We have compiled a list of foods that are pretty safe for most people. Check them out below:

  • Toast - this is light and fulfilling. Especially if you have been depriving yourself of carbs for the last few weeks to ensure you look perfect for your wedding day photos. This is also a great option because you can get a little protein in here, if you please with peanut butter. Many people like to add peanut butter, jelly, honey or just plain old sweet cream butter to their toasts. Personally, I’ll take any of those toppings, they’re all delicious.

  • Eggs - Speaking of protein, eggs are a much better source of protein than peanut butter and overall safer for those who may have a nut allergy. I love eggs because they are so easy to whip up if you’re getting ready in your home. Also a very simple option to ask the hotel to whip up for you. However, we do suggest going for a traditional scrambled egg, this is not the time to get fancy and request over-easy and end up with salmonella. Just trust me and play it safe. I got you!

  • Fruit - Winner winner chicken dinner. Who doesn’t love fruit in some capacity? The options are endless in this category. However, I like to stick to more of a berry. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberry, etc. Berries don’t have as much natural sugar as a grape or apple would and although fruit as a general category is healthy, too much sugar can upset your stomach.

  • Oats - Considered to be one of the healthiest grains on earth. They’re full of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. I like to get fancy and go for steel cut oats. Best part is you can add those berries we mentioned above to oatmeal and make it a full breakfast, needing nothing else really other than water for hydration. Oats take longer to digest, which helps you to stay full longer and causes less of a rise in your blood sugar.

We trust our suggestions are helpful. Please feel free to email us with questions or any suggestions you have that kept you nourished and hydrated on your big day.
